How The Bible Was Made

I believe the videos below provide valuable information about the Bible as a whole, as well as addressing some very problematic and dangerous beliefs that many Christians have about the Bible. The speakers will explain how some of these erroneous beliefs are being exploited by critics of the Bible, resulting in much unnecessary doubt and confusion. It is likely that not all of the speakers agree with one another on every point they address. And whether or not you agree with the speakers, they raise issues that the  student/disciple must be able to address to maintain their witness and reach the lost in today's culture. In fact, many are arguing that the issues these speakers are raising represent the very edge of the battle front for the soldier of Christ.

Some of the videos have notes with locations in the videos. These are provided to give the student an idea of some of the content, but each video includes much more than what is indicated by the notes, and the student will want to listen to the entire talk.

These videos are provided only as an introduction to the student, as an effort to whet the appetite. I plan on continuing to develop the site as my own studies continue. Please let me know your thoughts (frank@salawyer.com).

Making of the Bible [Extended Version] Tim Mackie (The Bible Project)

@ 7:15 Some of my colleagues were having a crisis of faith as they learned about all of this.

@ 7:50 When they learn the history of what it is [the Bible], it is a scandal to their faith.

@ 8:20 ... all of these undergrads who are having a crisis of faith...

@ 8:36 Something is broken in the system of Western churchianity...somehow people are being raised with a view of the Bible that makes its human history [a] scandal.

@ 9:20 ...people tend to hold that view in a way that makes the...history of the bible...dangerous.

What I Wish Christians Knew about the Bible: A Conversation with Dr. Michael Bird

What are the most common mistakes Christians make when approaching the Bible? In this video, I interview Dr. Michael Bird about his recent book "Seven Things I Wish Christians Knew about the Bible." We discuss misunderstandings about how we got the Bible, where it came from, and how to read it.

@ 22:30 The Bible is divinely given and humanly composed.

What Do We Do with Textual Variants: with Dr. James White

@ 7:30 What is higher Textual Criticism?

@ 10:58 A lot of Christians get uncomfortable when they realize there was a process involved...

@ 17:00 Because most Christians don't know much about the history of the cannon it's real easy to trip them up... this is what Bart Ehrman and his minions do... Before we send our kids off to high school we should make sure they are aware of this issue... because they are not they are easy prey... they're left going, "why didn't anybody tell me about this before."

@ 20:30 This is one of the enemies greatest areas of attack, to destroy a person's confidence in the scriptures.

@ 24:00 How can we have any confidence that this is the inerrant word of God if we have so many variants?
